The Substrate and Sterilization Center
The Substrate and Sterilization Center (SSC) are two facilities located in building 13A.01 of the Mærsk Tower.
We assist more than 150 different labs/research groups across SUND and associated hospitals, in washing and sterilizing lab equipment and large scale productions of buffers and substrates.
The Sterilization Center consists of 4 employees who handle washing and sterilization of lab equipment.
The Sterilization Center also handles autoclaving of GMO waste.
When handing in washing or GMO-waste please follow the guidelines described in the info folder below.

The Substrate Department produces substrates, buffers, and media for purchase.
We have more than 20 different items in stock that can be collected at any time.
We also do special productions of things we don’t have in stock, such as agar plates. Special productions are only viable for us on a larger scale, and you can find the minimum amount you need to order in the price and product list below.

Payment happens once every month by the KU-account (Alias, unit code etc.) you have provided us with. If you need to change your payment information you must contact: benjamin.jacobsen@sund.ku.dk
If you are a customer internally at UCPH, you will receive an invoice sent to the email you have supplied every month. You do not need to do anything to pay this invoice, it is purely for your information.
Any reposting or splitting of the bill is not done by SSC, but by your local controller.
Opening hours
SSC is open 24 hours a day for collecting and handing in washing. Substrates that are in stock can also be collected at any time.
After 17:00 you need to use your KU-card and code to gain access.
SSC is staffed during the following hours:
Monday-Thursday: 07:30-15:00
Fridays: 07:30-14:00
SSC is closed on all official UCPH days off, as well as in the period 24 December to 1 January
