Luiza Moraes Holst selected as BRIDGE fellow
Luiza Moraes Holst, MD, PhD, has been selected as a BRIDGE Fellow in the two-year BRIDGE – Translational Excellence Programme.

The BRIDGE programme is built on three core elements: teaching, research, and mentoring. Each of the 15 selected fellows is supported by a dedicated mentor team that combines clinical expertise and research experience.
Luiza’s mentors are Professor William W. Agace, her basic science mentor, and Associate Professor Lars Rønn Olsen, supplementary basic science mentor, both from the LEO Foundation Skin Immunology Research Center (SIC) at ISIM. Associate Professor Jakob Seidelin (Rigshospitalet/ICMM) will serve as her clinical mentor.
Luiza has been selected with her project “REPAIR-IBD: In vivo characterization of human colonic mucosal healing in inflammatory bowel disease”.
She aims to uncover why wound healing in the intestine is impaired in patients with chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). By using a controlled injury model, the project will track healing processes over time and identify therapeutic targets that could prevent relapses, limit scarring, and improve patients’ quality of life.
“I am truly excited to receive this opportunity. BRIDGE offers a unique framework for developing translational research in close collaboration between basic science and clinical practice – and I look forward to contributing new knowledge that may benefit patients with IBD,” says Luiza Moraes Holst.
Over the next two years Luiza will participate in BRIDGE’s academic curriculum and carry out her translational research project under close supervision. Fellows also receive structured coursework delivered by leading academics, industry experts, and innovators.
