Volker is an independent group leader at Heidelberg University. His research focuses on the replication of positive-strand RNA viruses, particularly hepatitis C virus (HCV), hepatitis A virus (HAV), and noroviruses. He investigates viral RNA synthesis, replication organelles, and how these viruses interact with and evade innate immune responses to establish persistence.
