The opportunistic Gram-negative bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa is implicated in many chronic infections and has been isolated from chronic wounds, medical devices and the lungs of cystic fibrosis patients. P. aeruginosa is believed to persist in these infections due to its capacity to form biofilm, which protects the embedded and aggregated bacteria from antibiotic treatments and host immunity.

Even though we are becoming better at treating patients with chronic infections, we are still not good enough. Therefore the focus of our work is to address the puzzle of bacterial biofilms in chronic infections.
