Hair dyeing stresses the immune system

Charlotte Menné Bonefeld heads the project on hair dye's impact on the immune system.

Every year Danish dermatologist report a number of severe allergic reactions from patients, and this has made Charlotte Menné Bonefeld and her research team at the T-cell biology unit in collaboration with the National Allergy Research Centre, look at how the body's immune system reacts to hair dye.

The acute and visible reaction is one thing, yet what really worry the researchers are the less visible, long-term effects of the stress that hair dye imposes on the whole body's immune system as it shows in preliminary animal experiments.
